When the fixed surface is in contact with the liquid, the original solid-gas interface disappears and a new solid-liquid interface is formed. This phenomenon is called pigment wetting. Ordinary solid substances are easily wetted by sexual liquids. Most of the solids that can be wetted by water are hydrophilic substances, whereas solids that cannot be wetted by water are non-sexual or low-grade substances.

The main factors that affect pigment wetting include:

1. The chemical composition, properties and molecular arrangement of the solid-liquid contact interface itself;

2. Modification characteristics of solid surface;

3. Add specific surfactants to the solution and adsorption on the solid surface.
